New Taipei's Late-Night Belt, Ranked: Sanchong vs Banqiao vs Xinzhuang

2026-08-17

Overall: Banqiao first (highest density and volume — one alley off Sec. 2, Wenhua Rd does the whole job), Xinzhuang second (best for karaoke, with a KTV pushing 20,000 reviews), Sanchong third (best old-Taiwanese flavour and prices, narrowest late-night choice). By scenario: old flavours in Sanchong, singing in Xinzhuang, everything at once in Banqiao. All three sit on the MRT — cab it if you drink.

New Taipei's supper scene isn't one place. It's three that refuse to yield.

This piece doesn't play peacemaker. Four criteria: density, how late it runs, price, transit cost.

First: Banqiao

Banqiao wins on one alley.

Ln. 182, Aly. 7, Sec. 2, Wenhua Rd — the flagship izakaya at No. 15 carries 22,000-plus reviews at 4.8, the highest in New Taipei; a few steps to No. 7, another house runs a perfect score on 5,400-plus. Ln. 369 No. 8 adds 4,200-plus at 4.9, and No. 255 another 3,600-plus. All inside a five-minute walk.

The outer ring adds range: the twelfth-floor bistro at Fuzhong Rd No. 67 (6,500-plus), Wanban Rd No. 11 (4,500-plus), Ln. 34, Minzu Rd No. 8 (5,200-plus), and a Cashbox at Guanqian W. Rd No. 6 for anyone who wants to sing. Density, format variety and share of late openings — first on all three. Full list on the Banqiao bar and izakaya list.

Second: Xinzhuang

Xinzhuang loses on food and wins on singing.

The KTV at No. 19, Sec. 2, Zhonghua Rd is closing on 20,000 reviews at 4.9 — nothing in New Taipei matches it — with another upstairs at No. 1. For pricing comparisons, see how to pick a KTV in New Taipei.

Eating is no weak point either: Xinzhuang Rd No. 483 (4.9, 5,400-plus), Zhongzheng Rd No. 309 (5,100-plus) and No. 231 (4,800-plus), Sec. 1, Fuxing Rd No. 197 (perfect score, 4,500-plus). The average is high. What it lacks is concentration — the venues spread along three roads, so changing stops costs time.

Third: Sanchong

Sanchong is the best-tasting of the three and the earliest to close.

Sanhe Night Market runs along Chongbei Rd, with braised cuts, congee and rice bowls to around midnight. On the izakaya side: Sec. 3, Chongyang Rd No. 103 (4.9, 5,000), Sec. 1, Ziqiang Rd No. 230 (2,900-plus), Sec. 2, Chongxin Rd No. 46-6 (2,700-plus), Jiying Rd No. 132 (1,500-plus).

The problem starts after midnight — fewer places to sit than Banqiao, and a third round usually means crossing the bridge. It suits "eat and go home", not "run all night". Full walk in the Sanchong supper map.

Winners by scenario

  • Old flavours on a budget — Sanchong. Lower prices, more direct cooking.
  • Singing until dawn — Xinzhuang. Sheer scale settles it.
  • One place for everything — Banqiao. That single alley off Wenhua Rd covers it.
  • Taking people you want to impress — the high-floor bistro on Fuzhong Rd explains itself.

Winding down and getting home

Massage is everywhere. Banqiao's Minquan Rd No. 45 leads on volume at 4.9 across 16,000-plus reviews; Sanchong has Longmen Rd No. 237 (perfect, 3,000) and No. 32 (2,000); Xinzhuang has Zhonggang Rd No. 375 (4,800-plus). Closing times vary — check what each posts, and see the Sanchong massage list.

All three sit on the MRT with last trains near midnight, and Chongxin, Wenhua and Zhongzheng Rd stay cab-friendly all night. If you drove out for supper and drank, get a designated driver — that rule doesn't care where you finished in the ranking. More in the Banqiao guide.

FAQ

FAQ

01

Which district wins overall?

Banqiao. In one alley off Ln. 182, Sec. 2, Wenhua Rd, the flagship izakaya holds 22,000-plus reviews and a second house a few steps away runs a perfect score on 5,400-plus. Add the twelfth-floor bistro on Fuzhong Rd (6,500-plus) and the Xinpu branch on Wanban Rd, and it takes density, volume and variety.

02

Where does Sanchong lose?

Breadth after midnight. The food is strong — 5,000-plus reviews on Sec. 3, Chongyang Rd, 2,900-plus on Sec. 1, Ziqiang Rd — but past midnight there are fewer places to sit than in Banqiao. Its edge is price and flavour, not the third round.

03

Why go to Xinzhuang?

Karaoke. The KTV at No. 19, Sec. 2, Zhonghua Rd is approaching 20,000 reviews at 4.9 — the loudest in New Taipei — with another on the same road. For food, Xinzhuang Rd No. 483 (5,400-plus) and Zhongzheng Rd No. 309 (5,100-plus) hold their own.

04

How much do prices differ?

Less than you'd think. Izakayas land at NT$500–700 a head everywhere, night markets NT$200–300; Sanchong sits slightly lower, Banqiao's bistro formats raise the ceiling. The real difference is parking and transit cost.

05

Transit?

All three are on the MRT — Banqiao on the Blue and Circular lines, Sanchong on Zhonghe-Xinlu, Xinzhuang on the Xinzhuang line. Last trains around midnight; after that, cabs are easy on Chongxin Rd, Wenhua Rd and Zhongzheng Rd. If you drove, use a designated driver.
